Introducing the Hybrid Chestnut, an American/Chinese Chestnut cross-breed sweeping the habitat development scene. Thanks to the resilience provided by its Chinese Chestnut DNA, this hybrid is highly resistant to the notorious Chestnut Blight. This tree is a quick grower, known for bearing tasty nuts at just 4-5 years old and with reliable annual yields. Its nuts cater to a range of wildlife, supplying food for deer, turkey, black bear, and more.
Thriving in full sun, moist, well-draining, and loamy soils, this tree also tolerates hot summers. Ornamented with soft green leaves and monoecious creamy white flowers that bloom in late spring, the tree's delightful fragrances will fill your garden. Edible nuts housed in spiny 2-3" burs follow these flowers, producing 2-3 nuts per bur. Its overall structure is shorter and more branched than its American counterpart, reaching heights of 40-60 ft.
Enjoy their dazzling yellow to bronze or golden-brown hues in fall. As they age, the bark transforms, developing deep furrows and gray-brown shades. For the best results, these trees should be planted in Zone 4-8. Primarily cherished for its sweet, edible nut production, the American/Chinese Hybrid Chestnut brings much more than disease resistance to your garden.
