Acer platanoides 'Schwedleri' is a gorgeous cultivar of Norway Maple, It has attractive dark green deciduous foliage which emerges burgundy in spring. This deciduous tree grows up to 30m tall and its hardy nature makes it a popular street tree in many areas. Acer platanoides is a member of the soapberry and lychee family and is native to central and eastern Europe and western Asia. It is tolerant of poor soils and urban pollution making it a great choice for city landscapes. Its sap contains a small amount of sugar that can be used as a sweetener or concentrated into a syrup. The tree is fast-growing and produces a screen, but inhibits the growth of nearby plants, making it a bad companion plant. Propagation can be done through seed sown in a cold frame or through layering and cuttings. Overall, Acer platanoides 'Schwedleri' is a tough and pollution-resistant tree that makes a beautiful addition to any landscape.
