Description
www.backyardgardner.com states: Robinia fertilis is a small deciduous shrub, spreading and suckering, usually 6 to 10 feet tall. Leaves are alternate, compound-pinnate, dark green color. Flowers are pink, or pale purple, borne on 2 to 4 inch racemes, and are quite showy. Flowers are followed by smooth, brown seed pods. Extremely hardy, survives all soils except wet. Will grow in sterile sandy soil, nitrogen fixing plant, tolerant of saline and dry conditions. A good plant for slope stabilization, waste areas, reclamation work. Varieties have been developed by the Soil Conservation Service. Can be subject to various diseases. Prune in late summer or fall, will 'bleed' in spring. Native from North Carolina to Georgia. Several cultivars are available.
