Description
According to Fir Ever Green Tree Farm: Balsam Fir trees have flattened needles, which are shiny on the top portion, and silvery-blue on the bottom. These needles grow to about 3/4 of an inch long, and are blunted at the tips. Balsam Fir can reach height between 40 feet to 60 feet, when in the right growing conditions. They grow better in cooler climates, which have a lot of moisture in the soils, and humidity in the air. The best type of soil for these trees, is well-drained and sandy. Balsam Fir grow well in the shade. It has been noted that they make excellent Christmas trees, because of their dark green colour, natural attractive form, and needles that last a long time. Also, they give off that wonderful Christmas smell.
Comments
Needles very aromatic; symmetrical, cone-shaped habit, especially when young; prefers cool, moist conditions
